Carapauzinhos with tomato rice

No, I won't start making posts about cooking ... it’s very difficult to take pictures of food! And besides there are good blogs dedicated to the subject (this one is my favourite).
I’m writing about it because of this post. After thinking a lot I thought that in fact it’s not easy to choose which food is most typically Portuguese. When I think of Spain I think of calamari, tapas ... Italy, pizza and pasta, Germany, sausages and beer ... but Portugal? We are such a small country and what do we say in Lisbon about the papas de serrabulho ou dos carapaus alimados?
So, to begin showing Cathy what we eat around here, I chose something that I find common ground: carapauzinhos with tomato rice.
The mackerel are sea fish (of course we can also fry fish from the river. I prefer sea fish but, perhaps, I never tasted a good river fish) and should be small. These were quite big, sometimes we get half the size (but it's not allowed by law).
After you have arranged them go for wheat flour (usually refined white flour)
and fry in hot oil.

The tomato rice, or of anything else, it is invariably the same: chop up (thanks Paola!!!) onions, put in a pan with a little olive oil, let it simmer a little, until the onion is transparent, then drop the rice and water (or vice versa) a pinch of salt and let it cook on low heat.
We followed all this with a lettuce and tomato salad seasoned with olive oil, vinegar and salt.
I think this is traditional, at least in my family.
And I apologize for not having the final photos but cooking and taking pictures at the same time ...
I hope you understand Cathy!

Tudo isto vem no seguimento deste post.
